Town of Kennebunk Smart Speaker Program

4302e

Are you an older adult in Kennebunk interested in learning about how smart speakers can assist with independent living?

The Town of Kennebunk, an age-friendly community, in partnership with Kennebunk Free Library is offering a Smart Speaker Program for older adults in Kennebunk interested in connecting with family, friends, their community and technology. A smart speaker is a voice-activated device that can answer questions, perform various automated tasks and control other compatible smart devices.

A workshop will be held on April 12 at 2 p.m. at Kennebunk Free Library. The program, How Smart Speakers Can Assist with Independent Living, will provide an introduction to smart speakers, an overview of features, one-on-one tech support to set up and use a smart speaker, and on-going support. All program participants who attend a workshop will receive a free smart speaker and a smart plug.

To register for the April 12 program, visit https://www.kennebunkmaine.us/SmartSpeakerProgram. The deadline to register is March 25, and the initial workshop is limited to ten participants.

The goal of the program is to provide assistive technology to help older adults maintain their independence, remain in their homes, and stay socially connected. Smart speakers can be programmed to provide medication reminders, turn lights on or off, check the weather, set timers, compile grocery lists and make calls to loved ones or emergency contacts. The devices can also be paired to work with other compatible smart devices such as door locks and thermostats that users may have in their homes.

As an Age-Friendly community, the Town of Kennebunk is dedicated to working together to support older adults. For more information, contact Karen Winton at kwinton@kennebunkmaine.us or call 207-604-1342.
