The Town of Buxton seeks a full-time assistant code enforcement officer to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure compliance with the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code - MUBEC, and other city ordinances. This self-motivated individual will conduct field inspections on commercial and residential construction projects, read/analyze building plans, and communicate effectively with the public to resolve code violations.
Candidates must have excellent customer service skills to be able to work with a diverse base of property owners, architects, engineers, contractors and the general public.
Preferred candidates will have knowledge and experience in building code administration and enforcement, building trades and construction, general inspection work, and/or plan review. Certificate or degree in construction technology, plumbing, or other related field is a plus. Ideal candidates will have Maine Code Enforcement Certification in legal issues, land use, internal plumbing, subsurface wastewater disposal, and building, energy, and ventilation standards, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Entry-level candidates with the right combination of skills and experience will also be considered. Part-time applicants may also be considered.
Must have a valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license, access to a vehicle for daily work use, and must have and maintain a good driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Pay range between $18 and $25/hr. depending on qualifications.
