Colby College McCarthy's Eight Saves Guide Mules to Draw With Amherst

In the rare back-to-back NESCAC weekend, the Colby Men's Soccer team earned its second tie in as many days, playing even with Amherst in a 2-2 draw on Sunday.  Colby is now 2-1-5, good for ninth in the conference standings, while Amherst sits in fifth with a 5-1-2 record.

The Mules got on the board first when Colin Sullivan tallied his first goal of the season on a long shot that found its way into the bottom corner of the net.  Ethan Fabricant set Colby further ahead early in the second half with a looping header past the outstretched Mammoth goalkeeper, set up by Ethan Franco.  Fabricant, Franco, Josh Rubin, and Mario Simoes sit atop the Colby leader board with three goals apiece on the season.

Colby played on top for most of regulation, but Amherst was able to score twice late (77th minute, 83rd minute) to earn the draw.  Amherst led in corner kick attempts (13-5) and shots on goal (10-2).  Brendan McCarthy was stellar in goal for the Mules, earning a career-high eight saves, running his goalie record to 2-1-4 on the year.

Colby is back in action Saturday when they head to Medford, Mass. to take on the Tufts University Jumbos.
