Recreational Shellfish Licenses

Recreational shellfish licenses are now available for the 2023/2024 Shellfish Season. Licenses will be available in the City Clerk’s Office during the business hours of Monday-Tuesday 7:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be an unlimited number of recreational resident licenses and a limit of 10% recreational non-resident shellfish licenses available. 

Resident shellfish licenses are $30.00 each and non-resident shellfish licenses are $60.00 each. Residents between the ages of 65 & 69 will pay $10.00. Non-residents between the ages of 65 & 69 will pay $20.00.

1-Day Shellfish Licenses will also be available. 1-Day licenses will be limited to 10 licenses per day and sold at $20.00 each.

YOU WILL NEED TO SHOW IDENTIFICATION (Driver’s License is preferred). Upon completion of a Shellfish Application, the City Clerk’s Office will issue the Shellfish License.

Resident Commercial Shellfish Licenses

The City of Biddeford will have Resident Commercial Shellfish Licenses available. The City Clerk’s Office will be taking applications through June 20, 2023 for these licenses. City Clerk’s Office hours are Monday - Tuesday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday - Thursday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

A lottery drawing for the license will be held on June 21, 2023 and the chosen applicant will be contacted by email/telephone. If the chosen applicant does not claim their shellfish license by Monday, July 10, 2023, another drawing will be done for the unclaimed license. Resident Commercial shellfish licenses are $200.00.

NOTE: The Shellfish Season runs year-round, from June 12 to May 31. Individuals do not need a license to assist a license holder in harvesting shellfish. “Guests” are permitted to assist a license holder in harvesting shellfish for a combined total that does not exceed one peck of shellfish per license per day.
