University of Maine at Augusta Moose comeback falls just short vs Navy Prep

The Moose went into the half down by 6 and then started the second half shooting 1-8 (12.5%) from the floor; down by 17 with 12:07 remaining in the second half the Moose battled and clawed their way back and found themselves with the ball with 10 seconds remaining and a chance to tie or win the game. 

 

The Moose shot 45% from the field in the first half and 44% in the second half to finish with a 44% shooting % for the game. Additinally a very impressive 9-19 (47%) from beyond the three point arc. While erasing a 17 point deficit the team saw big contributions in the final 12 minutes from Berk Evduzen (5 points), Elijah Smith (7 points), Yonas Medfu (9 points) and Maurice Hodge (6 points).

 

With 3:42 remaining Yonas Medfu went to the foul line and converted on both of his two free throw attemps to pull the game to 72-68 after a big block on the defensive end by Fraser MacDonald and then a steal and layup by Medfu the Moose pulled to within two points, 72-70 with 2:31 remaining in the game. Navy Prep converted a big 3 pointer from Chandler Schmidt to put Navy back on top by 7 points with 1:38 remaining. After a Elijah Smith offensive rebound and layup, a steal from Maurice Hodge and a huge three pointer from Yonas Medfu the Moose again found themelves within two points, this time at 76-78. Navy Prep missed a three pointer with the shot clock winding down but a offensive rebound by Navy's Boston Bonifay led to the Moose needing a quick foul. With 9 seconds remaining in the game the Moose called a timeout in the backcourt and Elijah Smith was able to get a three pointer off as time expired but it rimmed out.
