The Colby Women's Basketball team improves to 1-1 in conference play after defeating Wesleyan 59-54 in a close game seeing runs by both teams. The Mules are now 5-7 on the season.
Colby got off to a 9-0 run to open the first quarter, however the Cardinals answered by gathering a 29-16 lead into halftime. In the second half the Mules started to heat up knocking down 19 points in the third led by Caroline Smith with eight. Heading into the fourth with Colby now only down five, they kept the pressure on leading to a 24 to 14 point swing and a victory for the Mules. Colby's 51 percent shooting in the second half was a major factor leading to the win.
Smith finished with 23 points and eight rebounds, followed by Gabrielle Hemenes with a season high 12 points and Lydia Mordarski right behind with 11.
The Mules will return to Mayflower Hill on Friday the 13th to face Williams.
