Norwich University (9-5, 3-3 GNAC) surged past Saint Joseph's College (7-6, 3-2 GNAC), 80-72, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball contest on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's led by as many as 13 points in the first half but held just a 38-36 edge heading into halftime. The conference rivals swapped buckets in the first six minutes of the second stanza and the game stood at a 49-49 tie after grad Griffin Foley (Portland, Maine) hit a jumper with 14:20 remaining.

The Cadets turned the tide with a 20-5 run over the following eight minutes with a Kohlby Murray jump shot capping the outbreak and lifting the hosts to a 69-54 cushion at the 6:56 mark. St. Joe's tried to mount a comeback and cut the deficit to seven points (79-72) after Foley hit a three with 29 seconds on the clock, but the Monks were ultimately unable to overcome the Norwich run.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Norwich held a 33-15 lead in bench scoring and the Monks posted their second-lowest three-point percentage of the season (25.8%) after connecting on 8-of-31 bids from downtown.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Foley led all players with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting with three rebounds and a pair of assists
  • Grad Nicholas Curtis (Windham, Maine) netted 12 points with six rebounds and two assists
  • Freshman guard John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) chipped in with 12 points and three caroms
  • Junior guard Camryn Yorke (Auburn, Maine) came off the bench to score eight points with four rebounds
  • Senior forward Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) contributed six points and three rebounds
LEADERS – NORWICH:

  • Murray netted 14 points with eight boards and two assists
  • Donovan Lewis, Jr. and Owen Liss scored 13 points apiece
  • Joe Joe DuBrul registered 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists
  • Chris Hough added 11 points, seven caroms, two assists, and a pair of steals
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 21-7 in the history of the series with Norwich University.
