Colby College Women's Swimming & Diving Claims Victory Over Wesleyan in Senior Meet

The Colby Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving team hosted Wesleyan Saturday for their senior meet. The Mule seniors include Rayna Hata, Michelle Kennedy, Melissa Lomas, Monet Meyer, Ann Tolan, Caleb Bitting, Nate Cordick, Shaun Kronenwetter, and Jackson Rocket. In celebration of the seniors both teams pulled out the victory, 160 to 136 for the Women and 183.5 to 102.5 for the Men.

Starting with the team events, Colby took the win in the 200 medley relay with the women (Laurel Skorina, Kellen Mottl, Gabriella Landau, Tolan) placing a time of 1:48.14 and the Men (Brandon Xiong, Alexander MacLennan, Neil Mortimer, Kronenwetter) scoring a time of 1:33.76 while also placing in 2nd and 3rd to sweep the podium. The women's team in the 400 freestyle relay also took first place (Lily Moy, Ruby Venturelli, Mottl, Tolan) with a total time of 3:37.11. 

In the individual events, Lomas got the Mules going with a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle (11:14.74) as Cordick did the same on the men's side with a time of 9:57.04. The women kept things rolling with Mottl finishing first in the 100 (1:05.89) and 200 breaststroke (2:24.71) while Tolan placed first in the 50 freestyle (24.42) followed by Moy in second (24.84). Moy (53.67) and Tolan (53.73) then swapped positions in the 100 freestyle taking first and second again. In women's diving, Avery Rappaport continues to dominate placing first in the one meter (270.07) and three meter (265.34) as Meyer took second in both with scores of 254.62 and 221.17. 

More from the men include Carson Rehkopf grabbing first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.60) followed by Jack Forstot in second (1:48.74). For the 100 backstroke the Mules swept with Spencer Cohen in first (52.18), Bitting second (53.27), and Xiong in third (53.99). Cohen (1:53.14) was again followed by Bitting (1:58.95) in the 200 backstroke as they took first and second. Colby went on to swept the top four spots in the 50 freestyle as Kronenwetter (21.01) lead the way with Allen Zhu second, Ethan Chang third, and Rehkopf fourth. The Men also took the top four spots in the 100 freestyle lead by Rehkopf (47.62) with Zhu, Xiong, and Brain Brogan following in that order. Mortimer later placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.33. Lastly, MacLennan won the 100 breaststroke (59.50) with Jerome Wiater right behind in second (1:00.62) as Ben Spragg took first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.44 as MacLennan followed with a time of 2:13.36. Later, Spragg got another win this time in the 400 Individual medley at a time of 4:13.20.

Next up, the women will head to Brunswick to face in-state rivals Bowdoin and Bates on January 28th as the Men will do the same but at home on Saturday February 4th.
