Lainie Lemieux scored with 4:45 to play in the third period to give the University of New England women's ice hockey team a 2-1 win over Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon.
UNE fell behind early after a goal by Lauren Rokala put the Bison (5-17-1, 3-13-0 CCC) in front in the first period. Abbi Charvat tied the game for the Nor'easters with a power play goal 2:24 into the second period. Avery Lutrzykowski and Meghan Hamilton provided helpers on the tying goal.
With 4:45 to go in regulation, Piper Desorcie hit Lemieux for the winning goal as the Nor'easters improved to 8-12-3 overall and 7-7-2 in conference play.
Shots favored UNE by a 43-26 margin on the night. Delanie Corcoran had 25 saves to earn the victory in net. Victoria Bakopanos made 41 stops in the loss.
The win was also the 250th in the coaching career of David Venditti; earlier this season, he recorded number 100 with UNE.
The Nor'easters return home for the final time this regular season on Friday night against Salve Regina at 7 p.m.
